Irmadade de Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte or the Sisterhood of the Lady of Good Death
These images were taken on August 13, 2026, at the first Mass and procession of the Festival da Boa Morte or the Festival of Good Death. The Sisterhood represents an almost 200-year-old Afro-Brazilian syncretic tradition, combining the Catholic observance of the Ascension of Mary with the orisha Iemanjá/Yemaja in Candomblé.
